What is the LSP?
Your GP and pharmacy each maintain separate medical records. These records can be shared via the LSP (Landelijk Schakelpunt - National Exchange Point), a network that allows healthcare providers to exchange important information about your treatment and medication history.
Giving consent
When your healthcare provider uses the LSP, you will be asked to consent to sharing your data. After your approval, your data is registered using your citizen service number (BSN).
Requesting data
Other healthcare providers can request your data when this is necessary for your treatment. The LSP uses your BSN to identify which healthcare providers have made your data available. Medical data is not stored in the LSP itself - only your BSN and information about participating healthcare providers.
Regional organisation
The LSP operates through approximately 40 regions. Healthcare providers are assigned to specific regions and exchange data within those regions. Hospitals have access to multiple regions, as patients often come from different areas.
How do you give consent?
You can give consent in the following ways:
- In person at your healthcare provider
- By completing and submitting a printed form
- Online via www.volgjezorg.nl
You may need to give consent to multiple healthcare providers separately. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Viewing data access
Visit volgjezorg.nl to see which healthcare providers have accessed your records and when they viewed specific information.
